Artist's Description

This painting describes the agony and suffering of the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939). It is a synthesis of different Picasso works (like Guernica) with an image from a real photo from 1936. Even though parts of these works are based on his pictures, my composition is an original one. The idea was to "deconstruct" Picasso. Based on the philosophy of Jacques Derrida, the idea here is to create new notions or concepts, not to synthesize the terms in opposition, but to mark their difference, indecision and eternal interplay.
This is a signed original work painted in India and Sepia inks on paper.
For those interested in learning more about the Spanish Civil War, read The Return by Victoria Hislop.
