Human Rights Watch reported in 2017 that "it is difficult to overstate just how vulnerable LGBT people are in Chechnya, where homophobia is intense and rampant. LGBT people are in danger not only of persecution by the authorities but also of falling victim to 'honour killings' by their own relatives for tarnishing family honor. Human Rights Watch has confirmed that authorities have "rounded up dozens of men on suspicion of being gay and torturing and humiliating the victims. Some of the men have forcibly disappeared. At least three men apparently have died since this brutal campaign began." An investigation by Radio Svoboda (Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty) claimed that prisoners are being released to families if they promise to murder them.

Dr. Esther Newman-Cohen is a highly creative Israeli-based artist. She engages in a wide range of artistic activity, including drawing, painting and woodcarving. Her subjects range from abstracts to realistic portraits and landscapes, done in a variety of media - pencil, ink, aquarelle, pastel, acrylic and oil. She also designs ketubot, Jewish marriage contracts, many of which are also posted on Fine Art America. Over the past five years she has added wood sculptures to her repertoire. Her first solo exhibits took place in Jerusalem, at the Alliance Francaise in 1989: "The Women of Jerusalem," in 1992 at the Gerard Behar Theater: "Flowers and Landscapes of Jerusalem," and in 2008 at the Jerusalem Botanical Garden: "Flowers: A Love Story."...
